Educational Programs for the Empowerment of Communities

Compassion, not complacency, is our fundamental theory of action!
We DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to foster peaceful coexistence and healing, to encourage and educate disadvantaged and vulnerable youth, and to build more resilient communities for all Liberians, irrespective of gender, warring faction, or tribal origin!

Educational Programs for the Empowerment of Communities

CPE came to Liberia to teach peace and deploy mediators and peace ambassadors. Now, we address other threats to societal cohesion by providing youth-focused educational programs and by engaging and empowering communities.
Our programs heal vulnerable youth, change lives, impact schools, and transform communities. With your support, we can do even more.

A Message from Our Founder

"When the Center for Peace Education was founded in 2009, its mission was to teach peace classes in Liberia…Now CPE does much more than that, but this community service model is still growing and these growing partnerships with the neediest youth and neighborhoods wouldn't be possible without our donors' belief in what we do…"

  • Peace Education Classes

Our year-round peace education classes use a research-based curriculum designed with a national context and the needs of Liberian youth in mind. Many students tell us these are life-changing for them. Classes are free for all interested elementary, middle, and high school students in our programming areas, regardless of students’ backgrounds and past wartime affiliations or status.

  • Peer Mediators and Peace Ambassadors

Individuals that complete the year-round peace education classes often go on to serve as peer mediators and peace ambassadors in schools, workplaces, and community settings.

  • Education Support for Needy Youth

CPE addresses high levels of education risk by helping students get into school, stay, and thrive with meal programs, clothing drives, academic tutoring, literacy classes, and a peace scholarship program to offset school registration fees.

  • Vocational Knowledge and Skills Acquisition

In addition to helping students finish school, CPE works to implement vocational classes to help vulnerable youth, regardless of gender or affiliation, learn practical job skills.

  • Peace Reading Rooms

CPE seeks to establish and support (as needed) peace libraries or reading rooms in the communities we serve.

  • Civic Action Campaigns

Our civic campaigns improve communities and the members’ quality of life while offering them opportunities to experience effective and inclusive action. CPE has mobilized community environmental cleanup initiatives and community service campaigns for combating Ebola in 2014 and COVID-19 in 2021.
